OUTDOOR NURSERY/PRODUCTION
At California Grapevine Nursery, we believe that successful farming is an accumulation of small steps done right. Our constant monitoring of the nursery and use of progressive farming practices are the most effective tools we have in providing the customer with clean, healthy and productive grapevines.

One of our primary goals at California Grapevine Nursery is to deliver our customers the highest quality, healthiest vines possible. This process begins with the constant monitoring and care of our increase blocks where we grow our “mother vines” used to make cuttings for propagation.

California Grapevine Nursery was the first in our industry to make use of an ozone sanitation system. Ozone has long been used in many other industries, including food safety, as a natura
l purifier. We ozone treat our cuttings at the time they are harvested from the field and then prior to the propagation and planting to sanitize them. In addition, we hot water treat our cuttings as an added measure. CGN has always hot water treated our dormant vines post harvest in compliance with the California Department of Food and Agriculture Nematode protocol. In an atmosphere of increasing concerns over insect infestations and transmissions, as well as pathogen control, CGN’s history of hot water treatment of vines has been extremely proactive. We have modified our hot water treatment procedures slightly to meet the new recommendations for vine mealy bug control.

These proactive procedures, coupled with our customized nutrition monitoring, focused nutrient applications on both increase blocks and field nursery and hot water treatment of our one-year-old vines post harvest, ensure our delivery of optimum grapevines.

We do our very best to be good stewards of the land. Some techniques we use are:

• Subsurface drip irrigation. Provides the most efficient use of water available today.

• Integrated Pest Management. We constantly monitor our plants and make treatment applications only when and if absolutely necessary.

• Integrated Fertilization. We give our vines exactly what they need through the drip system and preplant soil conditioning.

We realize how important it is to make these efforts for our customers, the environment, and the community at large.
